I have always felt that every person should have an artistic passion, something unfettered by the restraints and demands of commerce, something done simply for the joy if it. For me, it is playing guitar.
I played professionally while in college but life took many interesting turns and I put it aside for many years. As fate would have it, I started playing again a few years ago and I posted a clip on an online forum. I received praise from two "guitarist's guitarist," Arial Pozzo and Tomo Fujita. So I began a more intense study of music based upon the constructive criticism of these two fine gentlemen. Although I love all jazz and blues, my particular musical vocabulary as a soloist lies more in post bebop jazz, ala Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell and Grant Green. My "bucket list" includes recording three jazz albums over a weeks time. One, "Soul Jazz." Another, Christmas tunes performed in a jazz vein. And finally, a third of jazz standards. Much like old jazz recordings, it will capture a series of live performances, direct to disk with no overdubbing. The locale, a recital hall at a local music college has been selected, and my friend, Martin Aigner, a Grammy Award winning engineer is assisting me. I will be posting demo tracks, and news of our progress as soon as they are available. |
